just merried.

One of my favorite couples, Lisa and Alex of Chicago, were recently hitched last weekend. It was a beautiful wedding, complete with readings from a dinosaur love story, gourmet burgers and lots of cakes and pies. It was a recipe for success.

I hate dressing myself for weddings -- I never know what is appropriate, and spending money on a dress I won't wear again is hard to stomach. Luckily for me, I wandered into Anthropologie one day and found a killer neon yellow dress with sparkles. Kind of Bollywood and not anything I would typically pick out for myself, but I decided to try it on.

I fell in love. It was a decent length and the color looked fantastic on my skin tone (both are next to impossible to accomplish). I snatched it up, needless to say. I think I would wear it again, for sure, as it's not too fancy that it can't be tamed down for work or play or whatever.

a bag affair

Spring bags are turning up everywhere! Some are canvas, woven, striped, bold prints and colors -- but regardless, there's something for everyone.

Kate Spade "Horseshoe Cove Scout" - Zappos

I'm obsessed with this bag. I was reluctant about the size, as it is kind of smaller. I made the mistake of putting my stuff in it (which really just consists of a large wallet and the case for my sunglasses). Of course, it fit really well and that made me want it even more. I cracked and bought it at Von Maur. It's a coated canvas and patent neon coral, and the color in real life is so gorgeous. It's a nice alternative to my neon orange Cambridge Satchel because this is much more feminine and it has a magnetic close. Plus, it has a polka dot lining (typical Kate Spade adorableness).

Kate Spade "Point Breeze Mini Coal" - Bloomingdale's

Here's another Kate Spade from her spring collection. So many of her spring bags are amazing, so it was hard to choose just a few to post. I could really do an entire post about all of them, but this is an interesting take on the straw tote. I love the chain strap -- gives it a much more glamorous feel. I absolutely love straw bags, especially when they're striped.

Marc by Marc Jacobs "Striped Sami Tote" - Bloomingdale's

This bag is actually not black, but navy. It's a beautiful, nautical beachy tote, spacious and roomy for all of your mild-weathered needs. It's straw and leather woven, and the colors are so great you could probably wear this in other seasons as well.

Rebecca Minkoff "Studded Affair"- Bloomingdale's

I will probably always have a love affair with studs. This bag is lady-like and the perfect crisp white spring shade, but I absolutely love the mini spikes to toughen things up. This is an updated version of her black studded bag last fall with the gold hardware.

Kate Spade "Delavan Terrace Little Nadine" - Piperlime

Kind of like an Hermes picnic basket? So cute.

Marc by Marc Jacobs "Solid Straw Top Handle"- Piperlime

So far Piperlime is the only place that has this bag -- and it's on order until May. Looks like it might be worth the wait. It's a fantastic size, simple and with a shoulder strap and a longer strap. I love the two tones of black leather with straw.
Tillary canvas bucket bag- J.Crew

J.Crew never disappoints in clothes, jewelry or bags, and this Tillary bag is no different. I held it in person, and the leather is super soft and a very vibrant green. I love the navy stripe. It's a super preppy bag, but imagine it with a leather jacket or some moto ankle boots.

Cooperative Mixed Media Tote- Urban Outfitters

Trendy neon and a nice beige canvas only for $59. This is one of my favorite bags at Urban right now. I haven't seen it come through the store yet, but it's still available online (for now, anyway). I predict this to be a big seller.

Rebecca Minkoff "MAB Mini Straw"- Saks

If ever there was a springy bag designed for girls who like their accessories to have an attitude (i.e.- me!), this is it. I love the juxtaposition of tough with light and airy straw bag. The inside is leopard too (drool!)!! Bonus: It looks to be super expensive, but it's really not.

Daybook Mini Satchel- Anthropologie

A Marni-style bag with an Anthro price tag! Score.

Happy shopping! xox

golden girls 2012

Awards season 2012 begins! And holy crap were there some amazing gowns tonight. There were the simple, the dramatic and the unusual. Here are some of my favorites:

Evan Rachel Wood in Gucci. This immediately caught my eye because of how insanely glamorous and intricate it is.

Charlize Theron in Dior. OMG. She is ethereal and gorgeous in this dress. I love the hairpiece and the leg being showed off. This is a MOVIE STAR dress.

I didn't put this one first, but I do think it is my favorite. It's Zooey Deschanel in a one-of-a-kind Prada. So amazing. I love the fluro green detailing. I have a feeling this will be one that some people won't understand, but Zooey pulls it off so well. You can't see it in the photo, but she had tuxedos painted on her nails. Adorable.

One of the evening's winners Claire Danes in J. Mendel. I love the detailing, especially on the back.

My girl crush, Jessica Chastain, in Givenchy with Harry Winston jewelry. She looks so elegant and vintage Hollywood. Very lovely. And I love a girl with pale skin and red hair.

Michelle Williams wearing Jason Wu (side note: I can't wait for his Target line next month!). She stays true to a vintage style, and I love it. She's also pretty versatile with it. This dress is major, and I'm obsessed with the sapphire shade. Another great hairpiece too!

Art Deco is one of my favorite designs and I was so glad that Nicole Richie wore it in her Julien Macdonald gown. She's also carrying a clutch from her House of Harlow 1960 line (one of my favorites). Nicole's style has evolved so much over the years, and this was absolutely breathtaking.

Another Nicole who nailed it. Nicole Kidman wore a gorgeous Versace with beaded embellishments that reminded me a little of Cate Blanchett's 2011 Oscar gown that I adored

I was so glad that Angelina Jolie did something a little different. This Atelier Versace gown is unique and gorgeous, but the real beauty is how amazingly it fit her. It literally looked like she was sewn into the dress! Again, I'm not sure how other people will respond to this choice, but I love risk takers. Plus, can she ever really look bad?

Last but not least, ultra-cool girl Rooney Mara in Nina Ricci. This was my second-favorite look from the evening. She looks so high-fashion and effortless. I'm happy to see she stayed with a look she was obviously comfortable with. Who can go wrong with a gorgeous black dress anyway?

What were some of your favorite looks?

I am one who is constantly making wish lists, but now comes the time of the year where it's actually (sort of) taken into consideration and acceptable.

nanette lepore s/s 2012

Editor's comments: Neon accessories and clothes!! I'm so excited that more designers are experimenting with neon this spring. The lace over the neon is amazing and the Barbie pink stripes? So sweet.
